The first traditional Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong, located at Pak Shing Kok Road in Tseung Kwan O, began operations today (Dec. 11). The hospital held its inaugural flag-raising ceremony in the morning, attended by Secretary for Health Dr. Lo Chung-mau, who inspected the hospital's preparations, including experiencing the patient service process.
The hospital has seven floors, featuring outpatient departments, Chinese and Western medicine pharmacies, and day wards, providing both outpatient and inpatient services, with the lowest outpatient fee starting at HK$180 in its first year. Citizens can make appointments via phone, website, or in person.
Additionally, the testing centre for Chinese medicines to be managed by the Department of Health (DH) began phased operations today in its permanent new building. The new facility incorporates advanced technology and equipment to enhance Chinese medicine testing methods and the development of herbal medicine standards, contributing to the high-quality development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. The newly opened Chinese Medicines Herbarium will showcase approximately 3,500 specimens, including valuable specimens donated by the national government to Hong Kong. Alongside the building, the outdoor medicinal plant garden "Shennong Herbal Garden" will also be open for free group visits starting today.
