A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture, Japan, on the night of Aug. 8, local time. According to the Asahi Shimbun, the powerful quake caused road collapses in some areas, trapped vehicles, and ruptured underground water pipes. Videos released by the media show water continuously gushing from roads in parts of Aomori Prefecture, large sections of shop windows falling and shattering, and ceilings leaking water.
