The 2025 Legislative Council (LegCo) Election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will be held on Dec. 7. Today (Dec. 6), Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan visited Queen's College to inspect the preparations at the polling station, engage with polling staff, personally rehearse the voting procedures for the following day, and understand the special voting arrangements and other considerate measures in place for individuals in need, such as those aged 70 or above and pregnant women.

He also specifically instructed polling station staff to be exceptionally attentive and mindful tomorrow, reminding voters periodically of the correct methods for marking ballots and depositing them into the ballot boxes to prevent valuable votes from being invalidated due to errors.

Chan stated in a social media post today that the fire at Wong Fuk Court in Tai Po has brought sorrow across the city. In the wake of this tragedy, it is essential to unite the strength of the entire society to overcome this difficult time together. Tomorrow marks a significant day in the LegCo election. As the LegCo is the government's most crucial governance partner, Chief Executive John Lee has announced that the SAR Government will promptly table government motions in the LegCo once the new term begins to discuss how to support the affected residents. Various legislative tasks will also be undertaken to fundamentally reform the system and prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Chan also noted that the Registration and Electoral Office has sent voting notification cards to approximately 4.13 million registered voters. Voters can cast their ballots at their designated polling stations tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. A total of 612 general polling stations across Hong Kong, the Election Committee constituency polling station at the Convention and Exhibition Centre, and nearby border polling stations will be fully prepared today. These will facilitate voting for geographical constituency and functional constituency voters, as well as 1,500 Election Committee constituency members, allowing them to elect their preferred representatives.

Chan added that after voters cast their ballots, polling station staff will distribute thank-you cards as tokens of appreciation. He urged voters to actively participate in tomorrow's election, emphasizing that "casting your vote early brings peace of mind." By electing a new generation of LegCo members with vision, commitment, and capability, voters can collaborate with the government to effectively manage post-fire recovery, reconstruction, and normalization efforts, as well as drive economic and social development, collectively shaping the future.
