A level-5 fire erupted at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po on Nov. 26, resulting in serious casualties. Fire safety requires strict adherence without any negligence. Today (Nov. 4), DotDotNews readers identified several fire hazards at the Kingland Apartments and Sincere House in Mong Kok, including scattered cigarette butts, obstructed escape routes, and open smoke doors.
The Kingland Apartments, located at 46-50 Bute Street, are surrounded by hotels. Reports from DotNews readers highlighted various fire risks across multiple floors, such as open smoke doors, debris blocking these doors, cluttered escape staircases, and numerous cigarette butts.
Additionally, the Kingland Apartments has two entrances, with the second located at 737-741C Nathan Road. Video evidence reveals several hotels on the 15th floor, with their double smoke doors left ajar. Moreover, multiple cigarette butts and debris cluttered the fire escape staircases on the ground floor, further narrowing the already tight spaces.
Photos taken by readers approaching the lobby showcased the building's sign, indicating a high population density with multiple hotels on nearly every floor.
Additionally, substantial building materials were found piled on the 11th-floor fire escape staircase, hindering the closure of smoke doors. On the third floor, the smoke door was open and obstructed by debris and personal belongings.
The fire safety issues extend to other old buildings in the area. During on-site inspections, readers reported similar dangers at the Sincere House at 83 Argyle Street, which also has a high number of hotels, citing problems like open smoke doors, blocked escape routes, and cigarette butts littering the staircases.
