A devastating No. 5 alarm fire engulfed a residential building in Hong Kong's Tai Po district on Nov. 26, leaving at least 44 people dead and over 200 unaccounted for. Among the victims, the Indonesian Consulate General in HK confirmed that two Indonesian domestic helpers perished in the blaze, while two others sustained injuries.
According to Sringatin, spokesperson for the Asian Migrants' Coordinating Body (AMCB), at least seven Indonesian domestic helpers remain missing.
Sringatin highlighted that after consolidating various pieces of information, it remains unclear whether these individuals are still trapped at the scene or have been rescued. She urged the government to provide updates and collaborate with Indonesian authorities to facilitate further actions.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs stated that no reports of fatalities or injuries involving Filipino domestic helpers have been received so far. However, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong noted it has received "unverified reports" suggesting that some Filipino workers may have been trapped in the burning building.
