A No. 5 alarm fire broke out yesterday (Nov. 26) at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, resulting in multiple casualties. The disaster has stirred widespread concern, prompting numerous corporations and organizations, including Xiaomi Group, Tencent, and Anta, to announce donations to aid the rescue efforts.

Lei Jun: Xiaomi Foundation donates HK$10 million to support Tai Po fire relief

Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, announced today on social media that the Xiaomi Foundation in Hong Kong has donated HK$10 million to urgently support relief efforts for the Tai Po fire.

In his post, Lei Jun expressed his condolences, saying, "May the deceased rest in peace, the injured recover soon, and the affected residents overcome this hardship at the earliest."

The Xiaomi Foundation in HK stated that this morning, it urgently allocated HK$10 million to assist with medical relief, emergency resettlement, and transitional living support for affected residents. Furthermore, the foundation pledged to continue monitoring the rescue and recovery efforts, working hand in hand with all sectors of society to help the victims rebuild their lives and return to normalcy as soon as possible.

Chow Tai Fook Group: Donates HK$20 million to aid residents

Chow Tai Fook Group announced a donation of HK$20 million to provide emergency assistance to residents affected by the fire and to help them through this difficult time. Following the fire, the group quickly mobilized its subsidiaries to offer temporary accommodation, food, warm clothing, and daily necessities to affected residents.

Chow Tai Fook also stated that it would launch an internal employee fundraising campaign to stand in solidarity with the community and support the residents of Wang Fuk Court in rebuilding their homes.

In addition, AlipayHK has launched a dedicated donation channel on its homepage, enabling HK residents to quickly participate in relief projects organized by local charitable organizations.

Alibaba donates HK$20 million to support disaster relief

The Alibaba Group has announced an initial donation of HK$20 million to assist with fire rescue efforts in HK, as well as to support transitional resettlement, the provision of essential supplies, and emotional counseling for those affected.

The company has also activated its emergency disaster response mechanism. Subsidiaries such as Cainiao are mobilizing nearby resources, including food, bedding, and other emergency supplies, which are being delivered to the disaster-stricken areas to help affected residents through this difficult time.

Keeta donates HK$5 million in disaster relief, second batch of charging supplies arrives this morning

Keeta, the food delivery platform under Meituan, has urgently pledged a donation of HK$5 million to support disaster-stricken residents with transitional resettlement, replenishment of daily necessities, and assistance in post-disaster community recovery efforts.

On the day the disaster occurred, Keeta swiftly deployed the first batch of free portable chargers, which were delivered to the Tai Po area to support emergency rescue efforts. The second batch of charging cabinets arrived early this morning and has been gradually placed near temporary shelters for residents, providing free access to the public.

HKJC donates HK$100 million in emergency aid to support victims of fire

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has announced an emergency aid donation of HK$100 million through the "Jockey Club Emergency Relief Fund" to address the urgent needs of those injured and the families of the deceased in the fire. The aid will be distributed via the Social Welfare Department and relevant non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This is the first phase of support from the HKJC, with more assistance to follow in the future.

The emergency relief package includes:

  • HK$150,000 per deceased individual to be granted to the families of the victims as immediate financial assistance.
  • HK$100,000 for each seriously injured victim as emergency aid.
  • HK$50,000 for each injured individual in stable condition as emergency aid.
  • Relocation assistance for affected families who are temporarily housed in government-arranged accommodations, such as transitional housing, light public housing, or youth hostels, or for those who have arranged their own accommodations:
    • Families of 1 to 2 members can receive up to HK$10,000.
    • Families of 3 or more members can receive up to HK$15,000.
  • Furniture subsidies for transitional housing and light public housing, provided to operating organizations to allow affected families to move in immediately:
    • HK$18,000 for units housing 1 to 2 persons.
    • HK$20,000 for units housing 3 or more persons.

In addition to the emergency aid fund, the HKJC Charities Trust is working closely with relevant government departments and NGOs to provide further support to the injured, the families of the deceased, and others in need over the next one to three months. This includes:

  • Transitional housing arrangements.
  • Food assistance.
  • Bereavement and emotional support.
  • Educational support.
  • Caregiver assistance.
  • Distribution of emergency medication through the "Jockey Club PHARM+ Community Medication Service Network" under its Community Pharmacy program.
