Wang Fuk Court No. 5 fire | Several countries express condolences for victims

International media widely reported the No. 5 fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. Foreign ministers from several countries, including the UK and Canada, as well as consulates from various nations in Hong Kong, including the US, have expressed condolences to the victims.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper stated on social media platform X that the devastating fire in Tai Po is deeply distressing, and she extends her heartfelt condolences to all affected families and the people of Hong Kong. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand expressed deep sorrow over the Tai Po fire, sending heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wishing all the injured a swift recovery.

Consuls or consulates from the US, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, and Malaysia in Hong Kong have also expressed their condolences or tributes on social media.

The Hong Kong Red Cross advises that if citizens feel anxious due to the large-scale incident, they can take the following measures:

1. Pause exposure to related news or social media clips

Repeatedly viewing footage of the incident may intensify anxiety and emotional fluctuations. It is advisable to temporarily refrain from browsing videos, news, or social media content related to the incident to allow oneself some breathing room.

2. Monitor your emotional responses

It is normal to experience worry, fear, anger, insomnia, or persistent recollection of the incident after a significant accident. If these feelings persist or affect daily life, timely support should be sought.

3. Consider using psychological support services

The Hong Kong Red Cross offers the "Shall We Talk" psychological support service. If feeling anxious, panicked, or unsure how to manage emotions, you can call (+852) 5164 5040 or make an appointment via Telegram @hkrcshallwetalk for support from trained staff or volunteers.
