A serious fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, on November 26, 2025, at approximately 2:51 PM. The fire quickly intensified, being upgraded to Level 3 by 3:02 PM, Level 4 by 3:34 PM, and finally escalated to Level 5—the highest alarm level—by 6:22 PM.
The blaze continued to rage uncontrollably into the night. Loud explosions were reported from individual residential units, and thick smoke engulfed several buildings. Firefighters on the scene reported sporadic bursts and flying debris, believed to be caused by strong winds and bamboo scaffolding materials, which accelerated the fire's spread.
At 9:33 PM, firefighters had not yet extinguished the fire, and they heard another explosion from one of the affected units.
According to related reports, the number of fatalities has risen to 14, with many people injured, including two firefighters. One firefighter has reportedly died in the line of duty.
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department deployed large-scale rescue efforts, including aerial ladders and breathing apparatus teams. However, the intensity of the fire and the complex structure of the building have made rescue operations extremely challenging.
The fire affected at least seven residential towers. The bamboo scaffolding surrounding the buildings might have accelerated the flames' spread. Residents were seen evacuating in shock, with many reporting hearing "large bangs" and seeing glass shattering from the heat.
Footage from the scene shows intense flames engulfing multiple floors, with thick black smoke billowing skyward. Firefighters are seen battling the fire from multiple angles.
