On Nov. 19, the Guangdong Provincial Executive Committees for the 15th National Games held a press conference at the Guangzhou Main Media Center to present the technological innovations empowering the Games.
One of the most remarkable technological feats of the Games was the collection of the "source fire" using the "Haima" submersible. The remote-operated underwater vehicle dived more than 1,500 meters into the deep sea to extract combustible ice, which was then used to ignite the flame. This innovative process reflects a deep synergy between technology, sports, marine culture, and low-carbon sustainability.
The Games featured 130 high-tech products collaboratively selected from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other host cities. These innovations were applied across four core areas: dazzling opening ceremony displays, smart venues, event management, and technological assistance for people with disabilities.
One highlight was the world's first 5G-A humanoid robot torchbearer, "Kuafu," developed by a Shenzhen-based company. During the opening ceremony, cutting-edge technologies created an immersive experience, with robots performing ancient ceremonial music and other interactive displays showcasing the power of innovation.
This year's Games, marked by their strong emphasis on technological integration, transformed the Greater Bay Area into a "showcase of innovation."
The much-anticipated closing ceremony will take place on Nov. 21 at the Shenzhen Bao'an Joy Theatre. According to He Jianhui, Deputy Director of Shenzhen's Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau, the ceremony will be a grand stage for the latest technological marvels, including liquid canvas, naked-eye 3D, wearable devices, 5G cloud control, and autonomous driving. These displays promise to deliver an unforgettable finale to a Games defined by its technological brilliance.
