Cristiano Ronaldo, 40, has announced that next year's World Cup will be his last and that he plans to retire within the next year or two.
Having scored over 950 goals for various clubs and the national team throughout his career, Ronaldo stated via video call at a tourism summit hosted by Saudi Arabia that he currently feels excellent, can continue to score goals, and very much enjoys playing for the national team. However, he will step down soon, talking about one or two years from now. "I feel in great form right now. My goal-scoring speed is still fast, but I might consider retirement in a year or two. Next year will indeed be my final World Cup; I'll be 41 then. I've given my all for football, and now it's about enjoying and cherishing the present."
If Portugal defeats Ireland in Thursday's European qualifiers, they will qualify for next year's World Cup finals, which would be Ronaldo's sixth World Cup appearance. When asked if this would be his last participation in the quadrennial football spectacle, Ronaldo responded affirmatively, describing how he has dedicated everything to football. He has been playing for the past 25 years, setting numerous records for both club and country, and feels very proud.
