The women's 10-meter platform final at China's 15th National Games took place last night (Nov. 10), with Shanghai's Chen Yuxi clinching gold with an impressive score of 412.30 points. This marks her first-ever individual gold at the National Games, adding to her earlier synchronized 10-meter platform victory, making it her second gold medal at this year's competition. Chen's championship-winning dive sparked an emotional reaction from Quan Hongchan, who was seen cheering enthusiastically from the stands.
In a post-match interview, Chen expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support that has kept her motivated through challenging times. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, "After the Paris Olympics, I faced a lot of uncertainties. It's because of everyone's encouragement that I've made it this far. My mindset has been constantly evolving, and I've slowly adjusted until the moment I stood on the podium."
Chen and Quan share a unique relationship as both rivals and friends. Earlier in the synchronized 10-meter platform event, Chen and her partner Zhang Minjie secured gold with a dominant score of 350.22, while Quan and her partner Wang Weiying finished fifth with 311.76 points after a less-than-stellar performance.
When asked about her future in diving, Quan responded with a candid "We'll see." She admitted that her current form is not as strong as before, but emphasized that she is still happy. Even if stepping away from the diving pool means losing much of the spotlight and admiration, Quan's response was clear and resolute: "I know, and I can accept that."
