Lawrence Yan Chi-keung, a former prominent actor at Asia Television (ATV), passed away in Shanghai on Oct. 21 at the age of 59. His wife shared the news today (Oct. 31) through a social media post.
Yan rose to fame for his portrayal of Zhan Zhao in the ATV drama Heroic Legend of the Yang's Family, earning fans with his tall, handsome appearance.
In 1992, Yan made headlines for his relationship with socialite Kathy Chiu, who was 23 years his senior. The couple faced heavy public scrutiny, with Yan being labeled a "gold digger" and "kept man," eventually leading to their breakup after two years.
In later years, Yan stepped away from acting and ventured into the business world. He had been living in Zhongshan, actively engaging with fans on mainland social media platforms.
According to reports, Yan's death was sudden, with sources claiming he suffered a heart incident while playing sports. His social media post on Oct. 20 featured a cheerful selfie taken in Shanghai, where he shared his excitement about visiting the city, captioning, "Shanghai, here I come!"
