On October 23 local time, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States reported that the government shutdown has now lasted for 23 days, leading to a shortage of air traffic controllers and resulting in flight delays at several airports, including New York, Washington, Newark, and Houston.

The FAA stated that there are currently staffing issues at 10 air traffic control locations across the country. Temporary ground stop measures have been implemented at LaGuardia Airport in New York, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, and Newark Airport. The average delay time at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is approximately 31 minutes.
