Hong Kong's retail sales rose 3.8% year-on-year to HK$30.3 billion in August, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth. The sustained recovery has prompted e-commerce giants like JD.com to expand their "Double 11" promotions in the city.
On Oct. 21, JD.com launched its "11·11 Grand Promotion" in Hong Kong and Macao, featuring free doorstep delivery for self-operated orders over RMB 99 - the lowest threshold in Hong Kong's e-commerce market. The company reported a 50-fold increase in daily order volume since upgrading its Hong Kong-Macao operations last year.
JD.com is extending its regional subsidy program to Kowloon East after a successful pilot in Sha Tin that boosted user growth by 170%. The company emphasizes its focus on home delivery rather than pick-up points, with only 10% of Hong Kong customers choosing self-collection.
New services include cold chain delivery with temperature control and weekend cross-boundary shopping promotions. JD.com plans to expand its pick-up network from 700 to 1,000 locations by year-end while maintaining its core home delivery advantage.
