According to The Guardian on Oct. 17, citing Spanish media reports, the investigation into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Spanish fashion giant Mango, has taken a dramatic turn. Authorities have shifted their focus from an accidental fall to a suspected murder, naming his eldest son, Jonathan Andic, as the prime suspect. The Andic family, through a spokesperson, expressed their respect for the ongoing investigation and their belief in Jonathan's innocence, hoping for clarity on the matter.
Isak Andic, once Catalonia's richest man and Spain's fifth wealthiest, with a net worth of approximately US$4.5 billion and family assets exceeding €8 billion, died on Dec. 14, 2024. The 71-year-old was hiking with his family in the mountains near Barcelona when he fell from a narrow trail, plummeting 100 to 150 meters to his death.
Jonathan, his eldest son and the sole witness to the incident, was present at the scene. Despite immediate rescue efforts, including a helicopter, Andic was pronounced dead.
Born in 1981, Jonathan Andic is a member of Mango's executive board and was named successor in 2012. However, tensions between father and son reportedly escalated before Isak's death due to disagreements over company management and financial issues. Testimony from Isak's second wife, Estefanía, described the father-son relationship as "bad."
Initially ruled an accident, the case was closed in January 2025. However, discrepancies in Jonathan's statements and inconsistencies with forensic evidence prompted authorities to reopen the investigation in March. By late September, significant breakthroughs in the case led to Jonathan being officially named as the primary suspect.
Police are now treating the case as a suspected murder. Investigators have seized Jonathan's phone to analyze data, location records, and potential links to financial disputes and inheritance-related conflicts.
