According to reports from CCTV, dozens of journalists chose to surrender their Pentagon press passes and leave the building shortly after 4 pm local time on Oct. 15. This action was taken in protest against new regulations imposed by the U.S. Department of Defense—recently renamed the "Department of War"—on media reporting.

Under the new rules, journalists risk expulsion if they attempt to report on information not approved for release by "Secretary of War" Hegseth, regardless of whether the content is classified. Additional restrictions include limiting reporters' access to certain areas within the Pentagon without an escort.

The Pentagon Press Association, which represents 101 members from 56 news organizations, has publicly opposed these regulations. Major media outlets such as the Associated Press, The New York Times, and FOX News have instructed their correspondents to leave rather than agree to the new terms. Only the conservative outlet One America News Network (OANN) has signed the new rules and remains at the Pentagon.
