Hong Kong needs to nurture a new generation with potential in innovation and technology and a passion for aerospace dreams, contributing to the brilliant future of the nation's aerospace endeavors, Chief Executive John Lee said in a video speech at an aerospace technology research awards ceremony today (Oct. 11).
Lee expressed that the SAR government is accelerating the development of Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub. The upcoming Policy Address will emphasize the integrated development of education, technology, and talent, which will not only build a rich reservoir of talent resources and knowledge for Hong Kong but also enhance its technological innovation capabilities and competitiveness.
At the primary and secondary education levels, the government will prioritize the promotion of digital education. A blueprint for digital education in primary and secondary schools will be released next year to advance the application of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning, comprehensively improving the digital skills and literacy of both teachers and students, and strengthening students' learning outcomes.
Lee also mentioned that a solid foundation in mathematics and science is the bedrock for nurturing talent in innovation and technology. Starting this academic year, the government has introduced a new science subject in primary schools and updated the science curriculum for junior secondary students, enriching the content related to aerospace and innovative technology.
This allows students to engage with the nation's cutting-edge technologies from an early age, fostering scientific thinking and an innovative spirit. The government will also review the curriculum design of mathematics and science subjects at the senior secondary level to encourage more students to pursue these fields, cultivating future reserves of scientific research and innovation talent for the nation and Hong Kong.
