The globally groundbreaking AIGC (AI-Generated Content) animation series CHINESE STORIES has launched a new trilingual episode titled "The Secret Inside the Mooncake", just in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This short film uncovers the rich cultural history behind the mooncake — the iconic round pastry that symbolizes reunion. Cantonese-style mooncakes are the most renowned among the many regional variations: golden-brown crusts embossed with intricate patterns, filled with rich lotus seed paste and a salted egg yolk at the center — a perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Other regional varieties, such as Suzhou-style, Teochew-style, and Beijing-style mooncakes, highlight unique local characteristics, from flaky crusts to delicate vegetarian fillings.

But the story doesn't stop at tradition. The film also explores how modern creations like snow skin mooncakes filled with ice cream are pushing the boundaries of what a mooncake can be — redefining the pastry for a new generation.

Now available in three languages on the DotDotNews app, this animated short invites viewers to bite into a pastry that carries thousands of years of cultural heritage — and continues to evolve.
