Super Typhoon Ragasa has battered Hong Kong, prompting the HK Observatory to issue the No. 10 Hurricane Signal at 2:40 a.m. today (Sept. 24). Each time a typhoon strikes, Heng Fa Chuen is often the first to bear the brunt. This morning, the live reporting team from DotDotNews rushed to the scene to bring the latest updates on the typhoon.
On-site observations revealed numerous fallen branches and debris scattered on the ground, with broken tree limbs littering the roads. The strong winds made it nearly impossible for pedestrians to walk safely. Flood barriers and pedestrian railings along the roads sustained visible damage, while parts of the coastal sidewalks were sunken, likely due to earlier seawater flooding or other factors.
Massive waves relentlessly pounded the shoreline, with wave heights reaching "two-person-high" levels, far exceeding the height of the reporters present.
This marks the second time this year that the Observatory has issued the No. 10 signal, following Typhoon Wipha on July 10. The Observatory stated that while "Ragasa" is gradually moving away from HK, its associated hurricane winds continue to intermittently affect the southwestern parts of the city.
Extremely high waves and swells persist at sea, with overtopping waves particularly significant along the eastern and southern coasts. Residents are advised to stay away from the shoreline and refrain from all water activities.
