Hong Kong's Fire Services Department received a report at 4:12 a.m. today (Sept. 23) about a fire at a recycling yard near the junction of Tsing Sheung Road and Hong Wan Road in Tsing Yi. Firefighters have been working to extinguish the fire, which continues to rage, sending thick clouds of smoke into the air as of 2 p.m.

The recycling yard spans an area of 50 meters by 50 meters and is 15 meters high. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire involved a pile of metal scrap. No one was trapped, and no evacuation was required.

Notably, the same recycling yard experienced a fire two days ago (Sept. 21) at around 7:30 p.m., which also involved metal scrap. Observations at the scene suggest that the current fire originated at the same location and involved the same pile of materials, raising the possibility of smoldering debris reigniting. The Fire Services Department will investigate the cause of the fire.

Residents affected by the drifting smoke and odor caused by the fire are advised to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and remain calm.
