In 2025, the world will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the beloved Moomin stories, which began with the publication of Tove Jansson's first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood, in 1945. This heartwarming tale of a displaced family finding refuge and ultimately establishing the idyllic Moominvalley, with its iconic blue house, resonates with themes of belonging, acceptance, and the joy of welcoming all. The Moominhouse door is always open.
To commemorate this special milestone, the Consulate General of Finland in Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Public Libraries, is proud to present "The Door Is Always Open: Tove Jansson and 80 Years of The Moomins," a traveling exhibition celebrating the Moomin universe and the life of its creator, Tove Jansson.
The exhibition will run from September to November 2025 at various locations throughout Hong Kong, offering a delightful experience for visitors of all ages.
