The Hong Kong Airport Authority (AAHK) announced that the expanded Terminal 2 (T2) at Hong Kong International Airport will begin phased operations on Sept. 23, starting with the indoor coach waiting lounge.
Mr. Steven Yiu, Executive Director of Airport Operations at AAHK, noted that the initial phase will also include parking spaces on the lowest level. T2, similar in scale to Terminal 1 (T1), has three levels: departures, arrivals, and the coach lounge. The lounge offers parking for 41 vehicles and connects directly to T1, allowing quick access for passengers.

The lounge will serve tour coaches, hotel shuttles, and other vehicles, featuring ticket counters, dining, and retail options. AAHK highlighted its importance in the airport's "multi-modal transportation" strategy, aiming to support the 20 million passengers from the Greater Bay Area expected in 2024.
Additionally, AAHK introduced new departure tax refund arrangements effective Oct. 1, encouraging transit passengers to extend their stays in Hong Kong. The policy expands eligibility to all arriving passengers who depart by air within two days, with a new electronic application platform for refunds available within 28 days of departure.
