The 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services opened on Sept. 10. Reporters saw rows of red chairs everywhere in the outdoor space of the fair venue, with tourists sitting on them from time to time to rest.

These red chairs look familiar. It turns out that the seats from the temporary viewing platform in Tiananmen Square, used during the 80th anniversary celebrations commemorating the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, were moved here. The China International Fair for Trade in Services continues to realize its value.

Several parks and industrial parks received viewing platforms and seats for the commemorative ceremony.

In an open space near the Beijing Shougang International Convention and Exhibition Center, a small truck had just arrived with two rows of red seats, and several workers were skillfully unloading them. These two rows of seats required no additional installation; they simply sat flat on the ground and were ready for immediate use.

Liu Feifei, Director of Shougang Construction's Urban Renewal Department, said, "We brought back these chairs in the early morning of September 5th and immediately modified them. We designed a steel base that anchors the bottom of the chairs, like a pair of large iron feet, making them naturally stable and secure when placed on the ground."

Liu Feifei explained that Shougang was allocated 1,508 chairs. These chairs seamlessly blend with Shougang Park's unique blend of industrial heritage and modern style, embodying the concept of frugality while enhancing the park's value. They will continue to play a role during the CIFTIS.

The same red chairs have also appeared in the Urban Green Heart Forest Park in Tongzhou District, Beijing. Rows of new seats have been added under the shade of trees, along paths, and in small squares for tourists to rest.

Beijing's Fengtai District has taken over four viewing platforms, including seating, and moved them to Zigu Eden Garden and Weigezhuang National Culture Park.

At the National Culture Park, reporters observed the Fengtai Wangzuo National Culture Carnival being held. Over ten rows of platforms and yellow chairs removed from the commemorative ceremony viewing platform have become the auditorium. Because the viewing platforms already have a certain level of slope, they are perfectly suited for viewing performances.

The Red Flag Array, the Great Wall's Reign Year Number Platform, and others will be reused.

According to a representative from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management, core landscape elements from Tiananmen Square, commemorating the Tiananmen Square Massacre, have been systematically and efficiently reused in various new settings, adhering to the principle of "preserving commemorative value and maximizing resource efficiency." This not only conserves resources but also perpetuates and enhances the solemn significance of the commemoration.

This reuse effort encompasses a variety of landscape elements of special commemorative significance, including the Red Flag Array, viewing platform seats, carpets, and the Great Wall's Year Number Platform. During implementation, the strategy of fully reusing the original features was prioritized, with emphasis placed on integrating them seamlessly with the existing spatial landscape. This approach effectively meets the practical and landscape requirements of the new environment, achieving multiple benefits.

For example, the viewing platform features nearly 50,000 seats, all ergonomically designed for both comfort and practicality. The seats are scientifically selected based on three colors: Plenty Gold, City Wall Red, and Olive Green. Each color is precisely adapted to the function and atmosphere of each new setting, making them suitable for a variety of settings, including school auditoriums, parks, stadiums, and urban public spaces.

At the same time, the red flag formation, a key symbol of the event, has been preserved and systematically distributed across numerous schools across the city, continuing to inspire teachers and students to carry on the spirit and shoulder their responsibilities.

In addition to Shougang Park, Urban Green Heart Park, and National Culture Park, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry has also received over 4,700 green seats, which will be used in parks such as Taoranting Park, Zizhuyuan Park, and Yuyuantan Park, blending harmoniously with the natural landscape.

The Beijing Municipal Education Commission has received over 9,000 red seats, which will be distributed to numerous primary, secondary, and high schools, serving auditoriums and daily teaching, maintaining a dignified and harmonious educational environment.

The Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau has received temporary viewing platforms and seats, which will be used collectively for training sessions, rallies, and competitions.

Following this, Beijing's Tongzhou District will also receive four viewing platforms (including seats) for placement in the canal area; Beijing's Pinggu District will receive two, integrating them into the natural landscape and allowing citizens to experience the square seating.

The large-scale and precise reuse of core landscape elements embodies the principles of green, thrifty, and pragmatic practices. It effectively promotes the recycling of public resources, integrates commemorative value into the fabric of urban development and the daily lives of citizens, and imbues it with new vitality in new settings.
