Is a real-life version of "Parasite" unfolding in the US? According to reports from various foreign media, police recently discovered a strange man living in the floor space of a residential home in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, equipped with his own gear.
The incident occurred on the night of Sept. 3. Police received a report around 11 pm that a witness saw a strange man park his car and walk toward the back of a three-story house. The witness noticed that the entrance to the floor space of the house was open and light was leaking from inside.
Upon arrival, officers found that the lock on the entrance to the floor space had been damaged and was locked from the inside, with a power cord pulled in from a vent. After contacting the homeowner, it was confirmed that no one should be inside, so the police attempted to unlock the door with keys provided by the homeowner but failed. They eventually forced entry and discovered a man living in the floor space beneath the house, leading to his arrest.
The man had created a "comfort home" in the floor space, complete with a bed, lighting, and a television, and was using the home's electricity. Police also found a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine.
After discovery, the man was arrested on charges of burglary and illegal possession of methamphetamine. He is currently being held in Clackamas County Jail and has been granted bail set at US$75,000 (approximately HK$685,000).
