On Sept. 4, Darth Vader's iconic lightsaber from the "Star Wars" movie was sold for an astronomical US$3.65 million (approximately HK$28.4 million) at an auction in Los Angeles, California.
The lightsaber, which appeared in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi," was used by actor David Prowse and stunt performer Bob Anderson during filming. According to auction house Propstore, the weapon was one of Darth Vader's primary dueling props in the movies.
Propstore also revealed that this memorabilia item is now the most expensive "Star Wars" artifact ever sold at auction. Initially estimated to fetch between US$1 million and US$3 million, the lightsaber attracted bids from 31 participants before being sold for the record-breaking price.
