"You can question AFP's motives, but not its cameras." Known for its low-saturation, high-contrast industrial style and dramatic low-angle shots, AFP has earned the nickname "AFP filter" among Chinese netizens. While seen as reflecting Western bias, the photos have ironically boosted Chinese pride. One joke goes: "AFP, don't miss the Sept. 3 parade."
On Sept. 3, a grand military parade was held in Tian'anmen Square to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
AFP's photos, as expected, quickly made it to Weibo's trending list. Yet many netizens found the shots underwhelming, joking: "That filter isn't convincing — come back with more."

At the same time, some stunning photos of the event that were taken by domestic photographers moved countless netizens to tears.
The photos taken by Xinhua News this time far surpass those from AFP: they capture the impressive demeanor and ironclad tenderness of Chinese soldiers.
