Chinese tech company Xiaomi announced on Friday (Aug. 29) that it is recalling nearly 147,000 power banks manufactured between August 1, 2024, and September 22, 2024, due to battery cell issues that may cause overheating and pose a fire risk during use. Taiwan also announced a recall of the affected batch on Saturday (Aug. 30).
The Beijing Municipal Administration of Market Supervision released a statement on Friday indicating that Xiaomi Communications Technology Co., Ltd. reported its recall plan to the authorities in accordance with the "Interim Regulations on the Management of Consumer Product Recalls." The company is voluntarily recalling a portion of its MI brand power banks, model PB2030MI, with a total of 146,891 units involved. Due to issues with the raw materials of some battery cells, a small number of these products may experience overheating during use, posing a fire risk in extreme situations. Xiaomi will conduct the recall by offering consumers free returns and refunds to eliminate safety hazards.
Users can check whether their products are affected by visiting the recall announcement on the "Service Center - After-Sales Policy" page of the Xiaomi Mall website or by calling the customer service hotline for further information.
