Fan Zhendong has joined FC Saarbrücken, a table tennis club in the German Bundesliga, and will make his league debut on Aug. 31 (local time) in a match against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt. A DotDotNews reporter visited the venue in advance and has prepared a practical spectator guide. Follow us to see how to get to the venue!

1. Saarbrücken is located on the banks of the Saar River, near the German-French border, with Luxembourg being the closest international city. One option is to first arrive in Luxembourg and take the L40 bus from the bus stop in front of the LuxembourgrailwayThe bus ride takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes and will take you directly to Saarbrücken Central Station.

Note:

  • The bus fare is €5 per person (approx. HK$45), and tickets can be purchased with cash on board.
  • The bus crosses the Luxembourg-German border, and staff may board during the ride to check passports and visas. Simply present your documents as required.

2. After arriving at Saarbrücken Central Station, you can choose to take a bus, taxi, or walk to the venue.

  • Bus: Take bus 105 or 122. Board at Bahnhofstr., and after 11 stops, get off at Halbergstr. It's about a 200-meter walk to the venue. The one-way bus fare is €3.1 per person (approx. HK$28), payable in cash with change given. Note that buses run infrequently, so allow extra time for waiting.
  • Tram: Take tram line 1. Board at Kaiserstr., and after 4 stops, get off at Hellwigstr. It's about a 450-meter walk to the venue. The one-way tram fare starts at €2.9 per person (approx. HK$26), and a day pass costs €6 per person (approx. HK$55), allowing unlimited rides for the day. Tram tickets can be purchased with cash at the platform. Note that while there are no regular ticket checks on trams, random inspections may occur. Riding without a ticket may result in penalties.
  • Taxi: You can use Uber to get to the venue. However, Uber drivers in Saarbrücken may be slow to accept rides. Selecting the "Taxi" option may reduce waiting time. The fare from the main train station to the venue is approximately €13–20 (approx. HK$118–182). Alternatively, you can download the locally popular taxi app Freenow for a higher success rate in booking a ride.
  • Walking: It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the train station to the venue. This is also a great opportunity to explore the city's various European-style churches, take a stroll along the Saar River, and snap some photos.

On Aug.31, Fan will make his Bundesliga debut at Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. DotDotNews will also provide follow-up coverage.
