According to CCTV News, on Aug. 26 local time, U.S. President Trump stated during a cabinet meeting that Washington, D.C., would become a city free of crime. If anyone commits murder in the capital, Washington, D.C., we will seek the death penalty for them. This is a very powerful deterrent, he said.
On Aug. 11 of this month, Trump announced a series of measures, including the deployment of the first 800 National Guard troops to Washington and the federal government's takeover of the Washington Police Department. On Aug. 22, he further threatened a "complete federal takeover of Washington," adding that he would consider deploying regular troops and extending the national emergency status for Washington if necessary. On Aug. 25, Trump signed multiple executive orders to strengthen the federal government's control over Washington, including ending the cashless bail policy in Washington, D.C., and nationwide, and increasing penalties for flag desecration.
In February of this year, Trump stated that after taking the oath of office, he would direct the Department of Justice to vigorously advance the execution of the death penalty "to protect American families and children from violent rapists, murderers, and monsters... We will once again become a nation of law and order."
