How does Japan teach World War II? In this video, a YouTuber staged a conversation by impersonating different countries.
After the video comes deep reflection: Japan often obscures its role as the perpetrator of war, downplays its colonial rule and atrocities, and instead emphasizes its victimhood as a target of US bombings. It even attempts to use anime and other cultural exports as tools of diversion.
When it comes to its war crimes, Japan consistently evades responsibility, glossing over or distorting the truth. Through repeated revisions of history textbooks, it seeks to falsify historical facts and create a distorted collective memory.
If the Japanese government wishes to earn the trust of its people and the world, it must present the true face of its history from 80 years ago. Otherwise, it risks becoming mired in its own denials, with endless consequences.
