Washington, D.C., is currently governed by the Democratic Party. Since Republican President Trump returned to the White House in January this year, he has repeatedly criticized the issues of violent crime and homelessness in Washington, accusing the local government of mismanagement and advocating for federal intervention in the management of Washington, D.C.
On Aug. 11, US President Trump announced the deployment of the first 800 National Guard members to Washington, D.C., along with a series of measures to have the federal government take over the management of the D.C. police department in response to the frequent violent crime cases and the excessive number of homeless individuals in the area. However, Democratic Mayor Muriel Elizabeth Bowser recently emphasized in an interview that the crime rate in the area has significantly decreased, and there has not been a surge in crime.
