The Hong Kong leg of Cantopop diva G.E.M.'s "I AM GLORIA World Tour 2.0" kicked off last night at the Kai Tak Sports Park with five scheduled performances. After an eight-year hiatus, G.E.M. finally reunited with her Hong Kong fans. The opening night began spectacularly with "City Zoo," setting a majestic tone. Coinciding with her birthday month in August, the Leo songstress made a grand entrance on a giant lion-shaped stage, with fireworks synchronized to the electrifying music rhythm, instantly igniting the atmosphere.
During the concert, G.E.M. emotionally recalled that her last solo concert in Hong Kong was eight years ago at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
"Tonight is my last concert at 33 years old—tomorrow I officially turn 34."
Describing the Kai Tak concert as "beyond imagination," G.E.M. noted that each performance attracted over 40,000 attendees, with a cumulative total of 200,000 fans expected throughout the week. Moved, she said, "This is truly a dream come true. A scale like this was something I never dared to imagine."
Midway through the show, she choked up while reflecting on her personal growth and shared heartfelt thoughts with her fans. She mentioned that her previous song, "Loneliness," evoked many childhood memories, including playful moments of "pretending to be a goldfish." She admitted that looking back, she had been through a lot.
"When you feel lonely, remember—I, G.E.M., have been there too. You're not alone."
Meanwhile, "Chef Nic," the food brand by Nicholas Tse, which previously sold limited-edition spicy crab and juicy shrimp hot dogs during JJ Lin's Kai Tak concert, crafted another "delicious surprise" to support G.E.M. This time, they offered Hong Kong-style spicy sauce hot dogs at the venue, which G.E.M. enthusiastically promoted on her Instagram.
Fans celebrate G.E.M.'s birthday
Before the show, many fans arrived early to take photos and commemorate the occasion. Fans interviewed backstage extended their wishes, saying, "Happy birthday! May you enjoy happiness year after year."
Taiwanese fan "Miss Watermelon" shared, "I've loved G.E.M. for over six years, and this is my first time attending her concert—I'm so excited. The Hong Kong stop is nearby, and I'm deeply moved to catch her birthday-week show. Her songs are so empowering, especially when I feel lonely."
Huizhou fan JOKER said, "This is my fourth G.E.M. concert. My favorite is 'Walk on Water'—it gives me strength whenever I face setbacks." Dingding, who traveled from Zhaoqing, added, "This is my first G.E.M. concert, and it's extra meaningful because it's her homecoming show and her birthday performance. I listened to her songs every night while preparing for my college entrance exams—they're so uplifting and energizing."
Hong Kong fan Kris also drew strength from G.E.M.'s music: "Six years ago, I discovered her through YouTube and started listening to her songs. Her values and outlook on life have influenced me and helped me understand myself better. When I listen to 'The Sky,' I realize how far I've come, and it reaffirms that I shouldn't give up."
Another Hong Kong fan, Coconut, said, "Over the past year, G.E.M.'s songs have moved me deeply. They give me the confidence to face each day." Macau fan Christy revealed that G.E.M. inspired her to enroll in music school, while fan Zero shared that struggling with emotional issues, discovering G.E.M.'s music helped improve their mental state and provided newfound strength.
