Hong Kong's population remained stable at 7,527,500 in mid-2025, virtually unchanged from mid-2024 figures, according to the latest government statistics released today. The city recorded a net inflow of 18,200 residents during this period, offsetting a natural population decrease of 14,800, where deaths (50,000) outnumbered births (35,200).
The population breakdown shows 7,247,600 usual residents and 279,900 mobile residents in mid-2025. Revised figures for end-2024 indicate a total population of 7,500,600, reflecting a -0.4% annual change rate.
A government spokesperson highlighted that Hong Kong's various talent attraction and foreign labor import programs have successfully countered demographic decline, with immigration from mainland China and other regions contributing to an overall population growth of over 180,000 since mid-2022. The measures have effectively maintained population stability despite ongoing natural decrease trends.
