Octopus has announced the official launch of the Octopus App for Android. Starting from August 12, Android users can easily register through the Octopus App to enjoy a seamless electronic payment experience. New users who successfully add the new Android version of Octopus to their phones during the promotional period, or transfer their physical Octopus card to the Android version, will receive a welcome reward.
Once activated, users can simply tap their phones without unlocking or opening any apps to make payments at 190,000 Octopus payment points, including transportation and retail locations, enjoying the convenience of cashless transactions. Additionally, customers can add the Android version of Octopus to Google Wallet and use Google's "find my device" feature.
In addition, new users who add the new Android version of Octopus or transfer their physical Octopus card to the Android version will receive a HK$100 welcome bonus. Similar to the physical Octopus card, the maximum stored value for the Android version is HK$3,000. Customers can top up their Octopus balances anytime and anywhere using the Octopus Wallet, bank accounts (via the Fast Transfer service set up in the Octopus App), banking apps, auto-recharge services (through credit cards/Faster Payment System), or credit and debit cards issued in Hong Kong, such as American Express, Mastercard, and Visa in Google Wallet, as well as through the AlipayHK app.
Due to ongoing updates to card readers in some building access systems, they may not support the Android version of Octopus. Customers are advised to keep their physical Octopus cards for access functions. (You can check the list of buildings that support the Android version of Octopus before transferring.)
