Director of Health Ronald Lam announced that the Government Vaccination Subsidy Scheme will be expanded this year to include eligible chronic disease patients aged 18 to 49, impacting approximately 300,000 people.
Lam, appearing on a television program today (Aug. 10), cited data showing that hospitalization rates for chronic disease patients who received influenza vaccinations more than tripled, and mortality rates more than doubled. Lam emphasized that the subsidy program is being implemented in phases. Last quarter, influenza vaccination coverage reached a record high, with vaccination rates in nursing homes reaching 80% to 90% or above. With this initial breakthrough, the program needs to be expanded to cover more key populations.
