Trump claims US$60 mn aid to Gaza: US media reveals only US$3 mn paid. (DDN)

U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated assertions that America has provided US$60 million in food aid to Gaza are being challenged by official records showing significantly smaller amounts committed and delivered. While Trump has made the US$60 million claim in three separate public speeches, a Washington Post investigation reveals the State Department has only approved US$30 million in assistance through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), with just US$3 million disbursed to date.

The aid distribution process remains mired in controversy. The GHF, jointly supported by the U.S. and Israel, has faced criticism following multiple incidents where Israeli forces opened fire near its distribution points, resulting in hundreds of Palestinian casualties. International calls for UN-led aid distribution have been rejected by American and Israeli officials, who maintain the GHF operates more efficiently despite evidence of desperate civilians scrambling for food from aid trucks.

Gaza's humanitarian crisis continues to deepen, with the territory's 2.2 million residents requiring an estimated US$6 million daily to meet basic nutritional needs. Expansion of aid operations faces significant obstacles, including funding shortfalls and Israel's refusal to authorize new distribution sites in northern Gaza. The glaring disparity between Trump's public statements and actual aid figures raises serious questions about the administration's transparency in addressing one of the world's most pressing humanitarian emergencies.

As the situation deteriorates, pressure mounts for more accountable aid mechanisms that can deliver assistance without the current security risks and political complications. The US$3 million delivered represents just 5% of Trump's claimed total and covers less than twelve hours of Gaza's daily food requirements, highlighting the vast gap between rhetoric and reality in the U.S. response to the crisis.
