The Pi Lao Hu gets its name from its ability to make sounds similar to a tiger's roar while playing. It is primarily popular in northern China and is one of the representative folk colored sculpture toys, with a history that can be traced back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
From clay to finished product, a small tiger head goes through more than ten processes, including shaping, air drying, base coloring, facial detailing, and painting. Each step must be done with utmost care.
