According to a report by the BBC on July 24, the HR Director of US-based IT company Astronomer, Kristin Cabot, has resigned. This comes in the wake of viral footage showing her and the company's CEO, Andy Byron, in a close embrace at a Coldplay concert in the UK. The video, widely circulated on social media, has sparked controversy and allegations of an inappropriate workplace relationship.
The video's rapid spread online has ignited heated discussions, with many criticizing the pair for crossing professional boundaries. In a statement reported by AFP, Astronomer, headquartered in New York, stated: "Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted."
In its latest update, the BBC reported that the company's co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Pete DeJoy, has been appointed Interim CEO. Commenting on the situation, DeJoy said that the "Kiss Cam" drama has drawn intense media attention, and few companies in the data and AI space, especially startups, could receive this level of scrutiny.
"The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name," he added.
