Great Heat, the 12th solar term in the traditional Chinese calendar, marks the final phase of summer.
Astronomically, it occurs when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 120°, with the Big Dipper pointing toward the "Wei" direction. The term "Shu" signifies scorching heat, and "Dashu" represents its peak intensity.
This solar term aligns with the middle phase of the "Dog Days", the hottest period of the year, when temperatures reach their annual maximum.
