The Trump administration has declassified and released more than 230,000 pages of documents related to the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced on social media Tuesday (July 22).

After nearly six decades of unanswered questions surrounding Dr. King's assassination, we are finally making public these 230,000 pages of records, Gabbard stated, noting the files are now accessible through the National Archives website.

The newly disclosed materials include detailed FBI investigative records, discussions of potential leads, and internal memoranda documenting the case's progress, according to an official statement.

The release follows an executive order signed by President Trump on January 23 mandating full declassification of all remaining files concerning the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. King.

Dr. King, who dedicated his life to racial equality and justice through his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, was fatally shot in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1968. The disclosure marks the latest development in one of America's most scrutinized 20th-century political assassinations.
