The Hong Kong Book Fair will be held from July 16 to 22 at the Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Centre. Financial Secretary Paul Chan published a blog post today (July 20), stating that this year's fair will feature the first-ever Hong Kong innovation and technology themed pop-up display area. He invited over ten primary school students to explore the book fair with him and experience innovative products from local tech companies. He emphasized that the government will stay focused on the development of the innovation and technology sector, outlining a clear blueprint to provide diverse and high-quality career development opportunities for young people, allowing them to pursue their ambitions and achieve their dreams.

Chan noted that he recently engaged in discussions with a group of young people at the Science Park, where some representatives from startup companies expressed that Hong Kong's investment in innovation and technology, support for startups, inclusive environment that attracts local and overseas talent, and strong connections to the Greater Bay Area market and production base are key reasons for their decision to engage in innovation and technology in Hong Kong.

Chan stated that Hong Kong has a distinct advantage in attracting talent. He highlighted that this year, the Hong Kong Science Park's internship program received a record-breaking over 5,000 applications, with only 450 positions available. Among the interns, two-thirds came from the top 50 universities worldwide, including leading institutions in Europe and the United States, and nearly 30% were international students, reflecting the international appeal of Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem. Additionally, since the end of 2022, various talent admission schemes have received about 500,000 applications, with 330,000 approved, of which around 220,000 individuals have arrived in Hong Kong.

Chan emphasized that the government positions artificial intelligence as a key industry, providing robust support for fundamental research, promoting the transformation of results, nurturing local startups, attracting global cutting-edge tech companies, accelerating the development of the Northern Metropolis, and enhancing collaboration with sister cities in the Greater Bay Area. The development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology industry now has a solid blueprint. He reiterated the government's commitment to staying focused on this blueprint to provide diverse and quality career opportunities for young people, enabling them to realize their aspirations and achieve their dreams.
