British actress Emma Watson, best known for her iconic role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, has been banned from driving for six months after being found guilty of speeding. The incident occurred on July 31 last year when Watson was caught driving at 38 mph in a 30 mph speed limit zone in Oxford.
The case was heard yesterday (July 16), during a five-minute court session that the actress did not attend. Her lawyer represented her in court.
Prior to this speeding violation, Watson had already accumulated nine penalty points on her driving license due to previous traffic offenses. In the UK, there are at least three penalty points for speeding, and a penalty of 12 or more can result in a six-month suspension of the license.
The court handed Watson a six-month driving ban and imposed a fine of £1,044 (approximately HK$11,000).
Watson's lawyer described her as a student who has the means to pay the fine. The actress has been pursuing a Master's degree in Creative Writing at Oxford University since 2023.
Emma Watson rose to fame through her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise. In 2017, she starred in Beauty and the Beast, which achieved remarkable box office success and earned her multiple awards.
