According to reports from Baidu, on July 15, its autonomous driving service platform, Apollo Go, announced a strategic partnership with Uber, the world's largest mobility service platform. This collaboration aims to expand Apollo Go into multiple global markets outside the U.S. and mainland China and deploy thousands of autonomous vehicles to provide driverless transportation services to more users.
Currently, Apollo Go has deployed over 1,000 autonomous vehicles across 15 cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with a safe driving mileage exceeding 170 million kilometers and more than 11 million rides provided to the public.
According to the plan, the two companies will initially deploy Apollo Go's sixth-generation autonomous vehicles in Asia and the Middle East by the end of this year, with gradual expansion to more global markets. Once the service is launched, passengers will be able to request autonomous vehicles provided by Apollo Go through the Uber app.
Baidu founder Robin Li stated that Baidu is committed to bringing the benefits of autonomous driving technology to more markets and users. The partnership with Uber marks a significant milestone for Apollo Go's global deployment of autonomous vehicles, aiming to provide safe and efficient transportation for passengers worldwide.
"This collaboration represents a powerful alliance between two of the most prominent tech companies globally, jointly defining the future of mobility," said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.
"As the world's largest mobility platform, Uber has unique advantages in transportation, delivery, and freight services, enabling the rapid introduction of Apollo Go's autonomous driving technology to the global market," he added.
