Indian aviation authorities have released alarming data showing 65 instances of mid-flight engine shutdowns over the past five years, averaging one incident per month. This disclosure comes alongside preliminary findings from the investigation into June's catastrophic Air India Boeing 787 crash that killed over 270 people. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation reported that while all affected flights with engine failures managed to land safely using remaining engines, the frequency of such incidents raises serious safety concerns in one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's initial report on the June 12 disaster reveals that both engines on the Air India Express flight mysteriously lost power when their fuel switches simultaneously moved from "RUN" to "CUTOFF" shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. This tragedy marks the first fatal accident involving Boeing's 787 Dreamliner and India's deadliest aviation disaster in over a decade. Aviation experts note the twin revelations highlight growing pains in India's rapidly expanding aviation sector, where infrastructure and maintenance capabilities struggle to keep pace with 15% annual passenger growth. With the crashed aircraft's black boxes recovered and multiple international teams assisting the investigation, the global aviation community awaits answers that could impact Boeing's flagship Dreamliner fleet worldwide.
