According to CCTV, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) of India disclosed preliminary findings on July 12 regarding the fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of June 12, shortly after the plane took off from Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, en route to the UK. Tragically, the crash resulted in the loss of 270 lives, including passengers, crew, and individuals on the ground. This incident marks the first fatal crash involving the Boeing 787 model.
According to the AAIB report, within seconds of takeoff, the fuel control switches for both engines were nearly simultaneously toggled from the "Run" position to the "Cutoff" position, leading to an immediate fuel supply disruption and engine shutdown mid-air.
The cockpit voice recorder captured a conversation in which one pilot questioned the other about the fuel cutoff. The second pilot responded by denying any involvement.
Both black boxes from the aircraft have been retrieved. The AAIB submitted its preliminary report to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and other relevant authorities on July 8.
