
HKU's Faculty of Medicine announced today (July 14) it has admitted 31 outstanding DSE candidates through the School Nomination Direct Admission Scheme (SNDAS), including its first-ever student from Guangzhou Nansha Minxin Hong Kong School. The school also enrolled 26 IB perfect scorers, one of whom is an international bridge champion.
The medical school's "Graduate Entry Track" program received 952 applications this year, with about 25 offers made to candidates from top universities like Oxford and Cambridge.
Since launching its "Distinguished Medical Scholars" program in 2023-24, HKU Medicine has been awarding up to HK$800,000 scholarships to about 30 top students annually. DSE achievers with 48+ points automatically qualify.
Prof. Lau Chak-sing revealed new PhD scholarships worth up to HK$2 million, allowing graduates to pursue doctoral studies abroad after an internship. "We need globally-minded talents to integrate AI and address healthcare challenges," he said, emphasizing the program's role in developing innovative medical leaders.
