Today (July 14) at noon, a couple in their sixties holding Hong Kong identity cards made headlines when they presented ten "HK$5 billion bonds" at the HSBC branch in Central, prompting staff to alert the police.
The incident occurred around 12:35 pm when bank employees at 29 Queen's Road Central reported the couple, a 66-year-old man surnamed Choi and a 62-year-old woman surnamed Chan, for allegedly presenting counterfeit currency while attempting to open a bank account.
Upon arrival, the police discovered approximately ten documents labeled as "HK$5 billion bonds" on the couple. It has been confirmed that they are married. Following preliminary investigations, they were arrested for "using false documents" and are currently in custody for further questioning. The case has been handed over to the Central District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up.
