The Director of Immigration, Benson Kwok, stated in a radio program that Hong Kong recorded 298 million entries and exits last year, returning to the level of 300 million seen in 2019. He noted that in recent years, traveling to the Mainland has become a habit for Hong Kong residents, with land boundary crossings being very busy every weekend. On Saturdays, nearly 500,000 Hong Kong residents leave through various ports, primarily heading to Shenzhen.

Kwok mentioned that to handle the large volume of travelers, the Immigration Department reduces staff leave during peak periods and flexibly reallocates personnel from less busy ports to busier ones.
The new Huanggang Port is expected to be completed by the end of the year and will implement a "collaborative inspection and joint clearance" model. Kwok said that even after the new port is built, there will be follow-up projects, with expected activation next year. He said that under the new clearance model, travelers will undergo exit checks on one side and then proceed directly to entry checks on the other side without needing to queue again.
