Netflix announced on July 1st that it will collaborate with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to livestream programming from the NASA+ channel. Starting this summer, viewers will be able to enjoy spectacular footage including rocket launches and astronauts' spacewalks.
Netflix indicated that the NASA+ channel will provide awe-inspiring views of Earth from the International Space Station (ISS), nerve-wracking footage of astronauts' extravehicular activities, as well as live coverage of rocket launches.
NASA stated that this collaboration with Netflix aims to bring space closer to our daily lives. General manager of NASA+, Rebecca Sirmons, added that this streaming service is committed to "inspiring new generations – right from the comfort of their couch or in the palm of their hand from their phone."
However, even with this Netflix partnership, NASA+ programming will continue to be available for free to viewers through NASA's official website NASA.gov and its official mobile application.
