Amidst the melodious music of Harbin Polarpark, five ballet dancers dive down underwater to perform enchanting ballet, conquering the tremendous buoyancy of 6-meter-deep seawater. Colorful fins, shimmering waters, and vibrant fish blend into a mesmerizing spectacle. The "mermaid princesses" sway their gigantic tails, embodying romance and elegance, captivating continuous streams of visitors.
Harbin Polarpark aquarium's waterdance show "Arctic Butterfly Fantasy" debuted in 2022, initially featuring two dancers extending giant butterfly wings in the 6-meter-deep seawater, offering a refreshing polar experience. The mermaid show has now expanded to a five-member team whose underwater artistry has reached new heights, earning widespread acclaim.
The show boasts China's top aquatic performers, blending synchronized swimming, ballet, and body art. Artists must overcome not only the water's buoyancy but also resistance 12 times stronger than on land, unfurling 4-meter wings in 0.5 seconds while holding their breath for 3 minutes to complete butterfly movements, which is extremely difficult. "The show's breathtaking," said Ms. Jin, a spectator from Bin County. "My child told me that butterflies in the sky were beautiful, but these 'aquatic ones' are magical."
